Shopping, reading, taking a stroll down the street - things you do every day without a second thought. However, for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who are blind or partially sighted, these things can be challenging. A helping hand can make a world of difference. Become a CNIB Vision Mate and experience the reward of giving back. With only two hours a week, you can help someone in your community with these everyday tasks. Learn how you can volunteer by calling your local CNIB office at 1-800-563-2642 or visit cnib.ca/volunteer 

 

The Corner Brook Status of Women are looking for volunteers to help at the Centre on Carmen Avenue. If you want to work towards the goal of creating a better community while promoting change, equality and women's rights, call us at 639-8522. Any time you can give from an hour to a day would be greatly appreciated

 

The Kindale Public Library in Stephenville is offering programming for a variety of ages. They have Master Builders Lego Club for ages 9 to 99, Drop & Play and Story Time for ages 0 to 5, Tabletoppers Gaming Club for youth to adults, and Kindale Writing Group for Youth and Adults. There will be Narcotics Anonymous group meetings in Stephenville every Tuesday night at the People of the Dawn Indigenous Friendship Centre at 90 Main Street. Meetings will begin at 7:00pm. The Royal Canadian Legion at 7 West Street in Corner Brook presents Chase The Ace every Thursday evening. This week's jackpot (July 19th) is $8,800 with 17 cards left in the deck. Tickets will be sold from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

 

The TD Summer Reading Club, Canada's biggest bilingual summer reading program, is open to kids of all ages, all interests and all abilities. This free program is ongoing this summer at every library across the province. Kids and their caregivers can participate anywhere, anytime

 

Tuesday, July 17th

The first meeting of Parents of Trans & Gender Diverse Kids Western NL will take place at 6:30pm from Rooms AS 2034 & 2036 at Grenfell Campus. This is a peer support group for parents of trans and gender diverse children of all ages, and for trans youth. Parents and youth groups will meet at the same time, in separate rooms. Thursday, July 19th

The Corner Brook Museum and Archives at 2 West Street will be providing a free Children's Safety Session from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. The session is in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, who will focus on water safety and emergency preparedness, and the Corner Brook Fire Department, who will focus on fire safety. Wednesday, August 1st

The United Church on St. Claire Avenue in Stephenville will be having a luncheon from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Lunch will consist of soup, a sandwich, dessert, tea and coffee. Tickets will be available at the door

 

Thursday, August 2nd

The Corner Brook Status of Women Council, in partnership with the AIDS Committee of NL, will be hosting an Art Battle Fundraiser from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Rotary Arts Centre. Artists will be given a word related to sexual health, and will create a painting based on that word. The paintings will then be sold in a silent auction at the end of the event. Tickets are just $10 each and will be available at the door. This is a 19+ event. All proceeds will go to Options: Your Sexual Health Centre

 

Saturday, August 11th

The Corner Brook Lions Club will be hosting a Motorcycle Ride for Dog Guides, starting at 10:00am from the Lions Club on Wellington Street. The route will go from Corner Brook to Norris Point, with designated pit stops. There will also be a BBQ following the ride.
